About the London Dragon Boat Club
History: Early
in 2006, a group of London dragon boat enthusiasts came together with a
goal to create a Dragon Boat Club that would allow several teams
to come together to share resources and have fun! Some of the goals of
the newly formed club were to promote the physical, social and
emotional benefits of dragon boating, to provide safe training and
opportunities for paddlers to increase their skills and to build
relationships in the community and with other paddling clubs. The
club had originally incorporated as the Wonderland Dragon Boat Club and
later changed the club name to London Dragon Boat Club in order to be
better identified with our hometown when we travelled and met other
teams. The club has selected the Fanshawe Yacht Club location on
Fanshawe Lake as it's choice of practice venue and our two practice
boats are commonly seen there throughout the summer.
The
founding members of the club believe this sport is one that can be
enjoyed by almost every Londoner. No special skills or abilities are
required and it's affordable for most people. A desire to train hard
together as a TEAM however is crucial for their ultimate success in
competition. Dragon boating is one of the fastest growing water sports
in the world. Most people who try dragon boating and race with a team
in a festival will become hooked on the sport!
